Is Guilt Blocking Your Joy?
Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty Ps. 32:1-2(NLT)!
A lack of joy in your life tells on you. Is your face no longer bright but dull? Do you complain and hear yourself saying over and over “I’m so tired.” Does depression knocks on your door, and you grant entrance to it most efficiently? Your chipper attitude has been chopped! And to top it all off, you are a Christian.
The joy of the Lord is our strength. The Holy Spirit has joy, and he is within us. He is the rivers of living water. Like natural rivers, the living water within us can cease to flow. Guilt blocks every Christian from experiencing deep joy. Guilt damns up the streams of God in our spirit.
The antidote for guilt is living a completely honest life not only with others but most importantly with yourself. Quit stuffing your anger and shame and bring it up to the surface. Confession is good for the soul. God’s not holding your sins against you, but you are! Love makes no record of wrongs including yourself.
Stop cooking the books and clean them instead. Get your accounts in order. Honesty goes a long way with God. Guilt will damn your life. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. It’s all yours to enjoy!
