Possess the Gates of Your Enemies

Genesis 22:17 Indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens … and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.

God called Abraham His friend and named Him "Father of many nations." His descendants birth many nations. God accounted righteousness to Abraham because He believed. Today we say "Father Abraham" because we too are righteous not in ourselves but in the faithfulness of Christ. Jesus loved us to give Himself up for us. The righteousness we have comes from the shed blood of Jesus. That is why we choose to live for Him. The life of God in us is eternal, of which the gates of hell cannot overcome.

Abraham's companionship with God was not one dimensional. They both partnered together and enjoyed each other's friendship. Their covenant relationship was beautiful, based on faith. God blessed Abraham in all areas of His life. The seed of Abraham is Jesus, and all believers in Jesus inherit the promise of blessing God gave Abraham. God blessed Abraham in everything. God also said that his seed would possess the gates of their enemies.

You and I, who are in covenant with Christ, have a promise that we may neglect. We have the power to possess the gate of our enemies. Jesus has paid the price for this victory, but we still must rise and deal with forces keeping us down and limiting our life's expansion. The devil is a thief and a liar. He seeks to kill and destroy. God has defeated him, but you must act on your faith. Pray and declare God's word over your life. Repossess what belongs to you—battle with the sword of the spirit, which is God's word. Put on the breastplate of righteousness and with the shield of faith, go to war. What you cannot do in your weakness your Lord will do in His strength.
