He Sets a Stunning Table
Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh (causing to forget), for he said, "God has made me forget all my trouble and hardship and all [the sorrow of the loss of] my father's household.”
Genesis 41:51 (AMP)
The holiday season is upon us. We are busy arranging our calendars for big meals, family gatherings, and office parties. But what if you have experienced the death of a loved one this past year? How can you celebrate with an empty chair around the table? What if this past year has been challenging for you? Can you still give thanks and rejoice?
Suffering is a given on this side of heaven. But God has a way for us to succeed in the land of our affliction. The history of Joseph in the Book of Genesis is a page-turner. The drama and traumas he faced are extraordinary. Despite the ups and downs of his life, he came out on top! What was his secret? We get a clue from the name he chose for his firstborn son. Joseph named him Manasseh, saying, "God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's household."
Like Joseph, we must recognize that God's blessings far outweigh the devil's sufferings. In the presence of my enemies, the Lord prepares a table for me. I'll miss my mom around my table this year. But the Lord will cause me to forget my hurt. I'll focus on how He extended her life for many years, not just for her but for me too! The Lord is good, and His mercies endure forever. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
