Jacob's Ladder

And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it...

Chances are, if you went to Sunday School, you know the story of Jacob’s ladder. The Lord gave Jacob a dream to show Him how heaven and earth are to connect. He saw that God was at the top of the ladder and angels were ascending and descending on it. Upon waking, he knew he had experienced God and called the place where he slept Bethel, meaning the House of God.

Jesus is our ladder to heaven. If we go high, the devil cannot bring us low. In Christ, we, too, are ladders reaching to heaven. We are the House of God. Our purpose on earth is to connect to heaven, to enter it here long before our bodies die. Jacob recognized the House of God on earth and declared this the “gate of heaven.” Jesus taught us that God’s kingdom is within us. How awesome is that?

You are precious to Jesus. The mystery of the ages is that Christ is the hope of glory within you. And yes, angels accompany, protect, and serve you. Don’t waste your time on earth with things without eternal value. Jesus has already opened the gate of heaven for you. Enter through to know Him face to face. Trust Him that the God who opened heaven for a trickster like Jacob has done the same for you. He is looking down at you; are you looking up to Him?
