Like a Bursting Flood

The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. 8 But with an overflowing flood he will make a complete end of the adversaries and will pursue his enemies into darkness. Nahum 1:7-8 (ESV)

Every day is new, and God’s mercies are fresh every morning. Jesus is calling you to be clean and start again. No longer yield to reckless impulses that weaken your morality bit by bit. In the day of trouble, the Lord is your strong tower. Call on Him, and He will help you stay true to His Word and character.

If God is for you, who can be against you? For every temptation the devil dangles in your face, He makes a way of escape. If you regard the evil desires in your life as your enemies, the Lord will give them into your hand. On the other hand, if you count such things as help in your time of need, you lose every time.

We serve the God of the breakthrough. In the days of Noah, God flooded the earth, breaking off Satan’s grip of evil. He made it a pleasant place to live again. The Father has a place of grace for you too. A home of protection detached from the unclean things of this world of hatred, lust, and disappointment. Like David of old, let this be your declaration: “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a bursting flood.”
