Simply Devoted
I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. 3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
2 Corinthians 11:2-3 (ESV)
Simple devotion to Jesus should be simple, right? Why do you make it complicated by ticking all the boxes that religion dictates? How many thoughts a day do you have that are condemning and judgmental? Must you do a,b,c, and d to feel close to the Lord? It’s not in the doing that we devote our lives to Him. It is in the knowing. Eternal life is to know the one true God and His son, Jesus Christ.
The time-honored saying “First things first” holds the wisdom of the ages. We will never love God until we know in the depth of our being He first loved us. Your attention to Him will grow into devotion once you apprehend Jesus’s faithfulness to you. Your faith rests on what He has done for you, not what you can do for Him. His love for you compels your obedience to Him.
Satan is a crafty being. Be wise to his schemes. He is always working against us to mislead and deceive. Our journey of knowing Christ deepens once our faith rests on the finished work of the cross plus nothing. We find that nothing can separate us from God’s love. His eye is on the sparrow, and we know He watches us. He is looking at us, are we looking up to Him?
