Uncircumcised Ears?

To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, they cannot listen...they take no pleasure in it.

Jeremiah 6:10 (ESV)

Are your ears uncircumcised? Whoa, what a question! Both the Old and New Testament speaks of people whose ears remain uncircumcised. The Lord sees this as unfortunate, for such people cannot heed His warnings.

When people see a road sign that says, "Turn around bridge washed out," only a fool would proceed. And yet far too often, we fail to heed the Lord's warning to turn around, stop, or slow down. When we ignore the Lord's counsel, we will face trouble. Whether it will come in the near or far future, it will surely come. Our life experience validates how our ears block God's voice to our detriment. All of us can think of times when we did not obey God and fell into a hardship of some kind or another.

When we land in trouble, we cry out to God for help. We must realize He was trying to deliver us, but we failed to heed His advice. It's God's goodness that we reap what we sow, for we learn a valuable lesson. When we face the consequences of our stubborn way of thinking, there is hope we will change directions and submit our obstinate will to the Lord.

God gave us ears to hear. We avoid many mishaps if we open them to Him and shut out the world's noise. No one likes to face the "what ifs" in life, for it's too late to change them. What if we changed our stubborn ways now to freely submit to the still voice of God in whatever form it comes? And what if we did this and our lives showed His favor on everything, we put our hands to do?
